Read More	Civil War Veteran - Union - 127th Illinois Infantry, Company "C -------------------------- Thanks to contributor #46497261; The Genoa Times, Genoa, Nance County, Nebraska, Friday, April 10, 1914, Page 8 Lewis Little Lewis Little was born in Kingston, Canada, January 15, 1827, and died at his home in Genoa, Neb., April 6, 1914, aged 87 years 2 months and 21 days. Early in life Mr. Little learned the cabinet-makers's trade. While yet a young man he decided to move across the border and become a citizen of the United States, where tradesmen received better wages than in Canada. He worked at his trade in Oswego, New York, for some time. Early in the fifties he got the western fever and went to Elgin, Ill., where he found employment at histrade. In 1853 he was united in marriage to Louisa Kimball. To them were born seven children, three of which preceded their father to the grave. In 1862 Mr. Little shouldered a musket and marched south with the 127th Illinois volunteers. He participated in several battles fought by the western army. He was one of the 60,000 men who marched with Sherman to the sea, participating in the battles of Kennesaw, Peach Tree Creek and Atlanta. He was with Sherman in his march through the Carolinas and participated in the grand review of the army in Washington at the close of the war. After being mustered out of the service Mr. Little returned to Elgin and resumed work at his trade. In 1878 he moved to this state, settling on a farm in Platte County where he lived until seventeen years ago when he came to Genoa to reside. Mr. Little was a man highly respected by all who knew him. He was a kind husband and father, a good and patriotic citizen whose temperate habits prolonged his life to an advanced age. He is survived by his wife, three sons - C.E. and Arthur of Genoa, William of Elgin, Ill. - and Mrs. Al Smith of this place. Funeral services were held at the family home Wednesday afternoon.
