ASHBY Lewis Sherman Ashby, son of William Henry and Margaretta Boyer Ashby, was born at Norwood, Iowa, on September 7, 1861, and departed this life in Chariton, Iowa, on January 28, 1945, aged 87 years, 4 months and 21 days. In his early life he attended Simpson College at Indianola and taught in the rural schools of Nebraska and Iowa for some time. He was converted at an early age, uniting with Norwood M. E. church and ever lived a faithful, Christian life. For many years he conducted the Norwood General Store. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Yenawine and Mrs. Mary Long, and two brothers, John and Abram Ashby. Surviving are four brothers, Thompson D. Ashby of Chariton; Newton B. Ashby of Tucson, Arizona; and George Luckey Ashby and William Elmer Ashby of Des Moines; many nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. E. F. Partridge, were held at two o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Norwood Methodist church and burial was in the Norwood cemetery. Obituary courtesy of Charles M. Wright
