Son of William Henry Ashby and Margaretta Boyer OBITUARY THE CHARITON HERALD-PATRIOT Chariton, Iowa Thursday, May 1, 1952 THOMPSON DAVID ASHBY Thompson David Ashby, fifth child of William and Margaretta Boyer Ashby, was born April 8, 1854, in Montgomery county, Indiana and departed this life April 24, 1952, at the age of 98 years and 16 days. He was one of a family of 10 children. Of these, one brother, W. E., of Des Moines, survives. The family migrated to Iowa by covered wagon in 1861. The family home was near the place where the Norwood store now stands. He lived in Lucas county and vicinity the remainder of his life. During his active years he was engaged in farming and in buying and shipping livestock. On March 18, 1880, he was united in marriage to Lydia Lel Pfrimmer. To this union was born nine children. Mrs. Ashby and two children, Mrs. Iola Primm and Charles F. preceded him in death. He is survived by seven children, Mrs. Edith Gofer, of Seattle, Wash., T. D. Jr., George E., Mrs. Warren Hanks and William H. of Chariton, Mrs. Clint Sowder of Menahga, Minn. and Olyn of Overland Park, Kans., 19 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. After his wife's death in 1931, Mr. Ashby made his home with various ones of his children until he was hospitalized by an accident in 1944. In January, 1945 he entered the Baker Nursing Home, at which place he has had a true home for over seven years. Mr. Ashby enjoyed the respect and affection of an unusually large circle of friends. His unfailing courtesy and happy disposition made him a favorite not only in his active years, but carried over into his years of invalidism. He was a very reverent man, and in business as well as in social life, put into practice the Christian principles which he valued. His community is better for the years that he was part of it, and his family will continue to profit by the remembrance of his worthy life. Obituary courtesy of Charles M. Wright
