Description	:	Lewis W. Reeves was born to Quaker parents Henry Reeves and Mary Rakestraw in Chester County, Pennsylvania (west of Philadelphia) in 1816 and raised a Quaker. After his father's death, Lewis, his mother and siblings, drifted west with the tide of immigration, first to Ohio (where his mother died), and later to Wabash County, Indiana, where Lewis married in February 1845 to Mrs. Catharine Marvin Baker, a widow with several children. Read More	Lewis W. Reeves was born to Quaker parents Henry Reeves and Mary Rakestraw in Chester County, Pennsylvania (west of Philadelphia) in 1816 and raised a Quaker. After his father's death, Lewis, his mother and siblings, drifted west with the tide of immigration, first to Ohio (where his mother died), and later to Wabash County, Indiana, where Lewis married in February 1845 to Mrs. Catharine Marvin Baker, a widow with several children. As a consequence of his marrying a non-Quaker, Lewis was disowned by the local Quaker Monthly Meeting. In 1849 Lewis purchased a quarter section of prime Indiana farmland, receiving a deed bearing the name of President Zachary Taylor. In 1866, Lewis and Catharine moved even farther west, to Warren County, Iowa, and settled on a farm there for the rest of their lives. Lewis was survived by his wife, three daughters and a son. For the last 50 years of his life, Lewis had attended the Baptist Church, but services were conducted by Mrs. P. I. Smith of the Friends Church, who was also his step-daughter. He was foster-father to his wife's children by her first marriage, grandfather to 16 children and had six great-grandchildren at the time of his death, age nearly 85.
