Gorsuch was born in Huntington county, Pa., April 1, 1833, and died near Concordia Nov. 26, 1917. He came to Iowa when only a small boy. Gorsuch was born in Huntington county, Pa., April 1, 1833, and died near Concordia Nov. 26, 1917. He came to Iowa when only a small boy. He was married in 1855 to Virginia Belot and six sons and one daughter were born to them. Of these, five sons are living - W.S. Gorsuch, Cedaredge, Colorado; Grant Gorsuch, Denver, Colorado; L.S., S.E. and Elmer Gorsuch of Concordia. Deceased crossed the plains in 1860 in an ox team train, during the Pike's Peak gold excitement. Returning to Iowa, he volunteered for service in the Union Army, in Co. E, Second Iowa Infantry, in which he served three years and three months. He came with his family to Kansas in October 1871, and settled on a homestead in this county, six miles south of Jamestown, where he lived continuously since, until a few years ago. The funeral services were held Nov. 27, at Fairview church, in Buffalo township, and the services were conducted by Rev. F.R. Beery, pastor of the First Baptist church, Concordia, in the presence of a large gathering of friends and old-time neighbors of the deceased. The members of the W.T. Sherman Post, G.A.R. of this city attended in a body. Mr. Gorsuch was an honored member of the Post and loyal to every principle for which that noble organization stands. It was the good fortune of the editor of this paper to be on intimate terms of friendship with this fine old veteran of the Civil war - we have been entertained and interested on numerous occasions by his recital of the incidents of that great struggle, which were ever fresh in his memory. It is noteworthy that while he lived to a great age, his mind was as clear and active as though he were yet a young man. Loyalty to his country was not a vague theory with him - it was the vital spark of his entire existence.
