Resident of Lead For Many Years Passes Away In Deadwood Hospital. Mrs. Eugene Scanlon, Lead resident for many years, died unexpectedly at St. Joseph's hospital in Deadwood about 5:30 o'clock this morning, where she had been receiving medical treatment since Friday. She had ben in ill health the past five years, but her condition became critical only last Thursday. Lyla McKean was born in 1889 in Keyapaha county, Nebraska, and came with her parents to Deadwood when a small child. She grew up there, attending the public schools. In 1905 she was united in marriage at Alliance, Neb., to Eugene Scanlon. Following a residence at various places on the west coast, they came to Lead in 1917 and established their home. The deceased is survived by her husband, who was constantly at her bedside; her father, J.H. McKean, Valentine, Neb.; a sister, Mrs. Mabel Gibson of Chadron, Neb., and two brothers, Otis and Floyd of Portland, Oregon. She was a member of St. Patrick's church, the Catholic Ladies guild, and the Lead unit of the American Legion Auxiliary. Though never rugged in health, she was of a sunny disposition and her friends were numbered by her acquaintances. Funeral arrangements will be announced later." Lead Daily Call, March 19, 1935 - "Scanlon Services Thursday Morning. Funeral services for t he late Mrs. Eugene Scanlon, will be observed at St. Patrick's church Thursday morning at 9:30, during a high mass of requiem to be sung by the Rev. William J. Boat. The Rev. M.S. Roach will preach the sermon. Burial will be in the Municipal cemetery in South Lead. The body will be taken to the family home, 11 West Hill street, tomorrow at noon, and at 8:15 tomorrow evening the Catholic Ladies guild will recite the rosary there. The deceased's father, J.H. McKean, Valentine, Neb., her sister, Mrs. Mabel Gibson of Chadron, Neb., and Mrs. Kathryn Conboy, Denver, Colo., a sister of Mrs. Scanlon, have arrived in Lead to attend the funeral services." Lead Daily Call, March 21, 1935 - "Mrs. Eugene Scanlon Laid To Rest Today. Services of the Catholic church were held at St. Patrick's church this morning at 9:30 o'clock for the late Mrs. Eugene Scanlon, resident of Lead for many years who death came at St. Joseph's hospital in Deadwood early last Monday morning after an illness of several years. A large number of friends of Mrs. Scanlon and her family were present to pay respects. Burial was made in the Municipal cemetery in South Lead with the following escort: active, William DeBow, Anton Giroux, William Dunn, Joseph Nonnast, Arnold Cremers and Clay Ayers; honorary, Fred Chase, Alf Gullickson, Dennis Shea, Ed Green, Sr., William J.
