Ramsey, a life-long resident of the Gilman vicinity, died Thursday night, April 24, at a hospital in Grinnell, where she had been since Sunday night. She had undergone surgery there a month ago. Lillian Ingersoll Ramsey was born on a farm northwest of Gilman, July 31st, 1871, the daughter of Amos and Susan Ingersoll and one of a family of 11 children, three of whom are living. On February 14, 1894, she was united in marriage with Jesse B. Ramsey of Gilman and together they began housekeeping on a farm near Carroll, Ia., where they lived for two years. After that they moved to the Ramsey farm 2 1/2 miles northeast of Gilman, where they resided until 1946, when they sold the farm and moved into Gilman. Here, Mr. Ramsey passed away in January, 1953. Mr. and Mrs. Ramsey were the parents of two sons, Martin, who died August 17, 1953, at his home in Sioux City, and Ivan, now of Scranton, Pennsylvania, who survives. She is also survived by two brothers, Bert Ingersoll of near Gilman, and Fred Ingersoll of Dixon, Illinois, one sister, Mrs. Harriett Munson of Montevideo, Minnesota; three granddaughters, Judy of Scranton, Pennsylvania, Jean (Richard) Lamb of Davenport, and Barbara (Carlton) Magoon of Sioux City; and five great grandchildren. Mrs. Ramsey was a life-long member of the Gilman Community church (previously the Congregational church) and she taught in the Sunday school as long as her health permitted. She was an early member of the Gilman Woman's Club and was an outstanding worker in all church and community affairs. She had great influence among young people and her home was always open to them. Her sympathy and patience made her a lovable woman, and a loyal mother, and grandmother. Funeral services were held from the Gilman Community church, burial in Prairie View cemetery.
