Description	:	Lillie Anna Melvin, daughter of Thomas and Minnie Meyer, was born May 11, 1876, at Winterset, Iowa, and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Merle Shafer, May 2, where she had been cared for, for the past eight months of her declining strength. She had attained the age of 72 years, 11 months and 21 days. Read More	Lillie Anna Melvin, daughter of Thomas and Minnie Meyer, was born May 11, 1876, at Winterset, Iowa, and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Merle Shafer, May 2, where she had been cared for, for the past eight months of her declining strength. She had attained the age of 72 years, 11 months and 21 days. She was one of a family of seven children all of which had preceded her in death, except one sister, Mrs. Ella Zabel, of Western, Nebraska. Her parents also went before her. She came to Nebraska from Iowa when eleven years old with her father and brother, Will locating near Swanton, and then moving to Nuckolls County in 1915 where she spent the remainder of her life. She was married March 17, 1896, to Charles Schmidt and to this union one daughter, Pearl, was born. Her husband passed away May 12, 1898. On June 14, 1900, she was married to Alford F. Melvin and to this union the following children came: Homer, Alma, Elsie, Glenn, and Beulah. Her husband preceded her in death November 19, 1921, and daughter Alma October 15, 1926, after a short illness. She began a great faith in her Saviour at a tender age and was faithful to her belief during her life. She taught a Sunday School class many years, was a member of the United Brethren Church and was always remembering others with flowers and help. She was one of the best of mothers but God saw fit to transplant her into heaven. Her life could be an example for many and she will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. She leaves to mourn her going: two sons, Homer and Glenn, one of Edgar; three daughters, Mrs. Joe Thompson of Hermiston, Oregon, Mrs. Merle Shafer and Beulah of Oak; eleven grandchildren, other relatives, and host of friends. The funeral services were held May 5, at 2:00 o'clock at the Angus E.U.B. Church by Rev. Robert Embree, the present pastor. The music was furnished by a quartet: Mrs. Otha Skinner, Mrs. Merton McCartney, Joe Ferebee, and Owen DeVore, with Mrs. Herbert Peters at the piano. The quartet sang "I Gave My Life to Thee," "Haven of Rest," and "No Disappointments In Heaven" A niece, Mrs. Leda Abbiecrumby, of Wichita, Kansas, sang for her aunt "Crossing the Bar" The pallbearers were: William Devore, C.C. Sprangler, Herbert Peters, Charles Skinner, Neal Wehrman, and Otha Skinner. Church usher was Merton McCartney. Those in charge of the flowers were: Mrs. Owen Devore, Mrs. Ivan King, and Mrs. Kenneth Grossman. The body was laid to rest in the Edgar Cemetery. The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, May 12, 1949
