Description	:	Linford Duck was the third son of Samuel Luther Duck and Elizabeth Conrad Troxell Born November 15, 1887. He was raised on a farm in Athelstone Township near Longford, Clay County, Kansas. He went to school at Vinzant School until the eighth grade. There was a lot of hard work on the farm, working the fields with a one horse bottom plow. Linford and Bessie Youse met, when Bessie was visiting her sister of Lizzy M. Linford and Bessie Youse met, when Bessie was visiting her sister of Lizzy M. Youse farm in Clay Center Kansas. Bessie Youse at that time was living in Humboldt, Kansas. Lindford S Duck was working at farm of Lizzy M. Youse. Linford Duck and Bessie Youse were married April 04, 1913 Topeka, Shawnee County, Kansas Linford and Bessie were blessed with seven children. Minerva, Faye, Ruth, Murray, Fern, Lorena and Phyllis. Linford Duck always served on the school board as long as he had children going to Vinsant School. Linn worked very hard all his life. He would milk sometimes as many as twenty four cows. There were no milking machines in that time. Milk was precious to the farmer in those days. The cream from the milk, after it had been separated was taken to town and sold at the end of the week, or sometimes a produce truck would pick it up, depending on who paid the better price for the cream. There were many days he just fell into bed from exhaustion. His hard work helped grow the farm to almost 800 acres. He loved the family to get together. Linn always had a pipe in his mouth. This may have contributed to his death from cancer on July 29, 1961 in Wichita, Sedgwick County, Kansas. He is laid to rest at Athelstane Cemetery, Athelstane Township, and Clay County.
