Description	:	Lloyd Henry Stertz the son of Conrad and Blanche (Moline) Stertz was born August 13, 1917 on a farm in Clay County, Nebraska south of Sutton. He departed this life on Saturday, March 7, 2009 at the Rose Brook Care Center in Edgar, NE at the age of 91 years. Lloyd attended the Excelsior School district #26 in Clay County, NE. This union was... Read More	Lloyd Henry Stertz the son of Conrad and Blanche (Moline) Stertz was born August 13, 1917 on a farm in Clay County, Nebraska south of Sutton. He departed this life on Saturday, March 7, 2009 at the Rose Brook Care Center in Edgar, NE at the age of 91 years. Lloyd attended the Excelsior School district #26 in Clay County, NE. In October of 1939 he was in the C.C.C. Conservation Corps for 18 months the last 12 months on a survey crew. Lloyd was United in marriage to Melva Yost on February 18, 1942 at Belleville, Kansas. This union was blessed with the birth of three sons. On February 20, 1942 Lloyd was inducted into the United States Army, taking his basic training at Camp Callan, California near San Diego. Lloyd then served 31 months at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. While in the service he received the ASINC Pacific medal, the medal of good conduct and expert rifleman medal. On returning home from service of his country, Lloyd and Melva farmed south of Sutton for 5 years then they moved north of Edgar in 1950 where they've lived ever since. Lloyd was a member ofthe Eagles Lodge #3101 in Superior; the VFW Post #3355 and the American Legion Post both of Superior. He had been a 50 year member of the Immanuel Clay Center United Methodist Church and had served at treasure for 30 years. Lloyd had been a past member of the Edgar School Board as well as a past member of the A.S.C.S. of Clay County for many years. Survivors include his wife Melva of Edgar, NE; sons: Dale Stertz and wife Marilyn of Hickman, NE; Gary Stertz and wife Bonnie of Blue Hill, NE; Clark Stertz and wife Deb of Edgar, NE; 7 grandchildren, 9 great grand children other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services will be held this Wednesday 1:30 PM, March 11, 2009 at the Church of the Plains in Edgar, NE. Rev. Lee Wigert & Rev. Stephen Price Gibson will be officiating. Burial will be held in the Sutton Cemetery, Sutton, NE. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.wmsfh.com. Williams Funeral Home of Edgar, NE is in charge of the arrangements.
