Melva passed away on Thursday, October 18, 2012 at the Rose Brook Care Center in Edgar, NE. Melva attended rural Clay County, NE. Schools and graduated from Sutton (NE.) High School. Melva was united in marriage to Lloyd Henry Stertz on February 18, 1942 at Belleville, KS. This union was blessed with the birth of three sons. Melva was devoted homemaker and enjoyed music. She played the piano at church and for many other organizations. Melva was a long time member of the Emmanuel Evangelical United Brethren Church of Clay Center, NE. She was an active member of the UMW, a Sunday school teacher and an YF leader. She was also a past member of the Rolling Pin Club and the Liberty Gals Extension Club. Melva farmed alongside her husband Lloyd south of Sutton for 5 years then moving north of Edgar, NE. in 1950 where the couple remained and called their home. Preceded in death by: parents; husband, Lloyd Stertz: brother, Vernon Yost and wife, Nelda June Yost; infant brother, Glenn Yost. Survivors are: sons, Clark Stertz and wife Deb of Edgar, NE; Dale Stertz and wife Marilyn of Hickman, NE; Gary Stertz and wife Bonnie of Blue Hill, NE; grandchildren, Tammy Carlson and husband John; Todd Stertz and wife Shelly; Jamie Kosse and husband Don; Jennifer Reiman and husband John; Jill Kort and husband Trevor; Cai Stertz; Deana Flodman; great grandchildren Skylar and Hunter Carlson; Cody and Nathan Stertz; Madison, Tate and Karsen Kosse; Lauren and Rachael Reiman; Garrett and Ally Kort; Reese and BrenLea Flodman; sister, Rogene Jones and husband, Hugh of Springfield, IL.; brother, Maurice Yost and wife Judy of Sutton, NE. and a host of relatives and friends. Burial was in the Sutton Cemetery, Sutton, NE.
