Holderbaum is missing and he is believed to have been drowned in the Missouri river Sunday evening. Nothing has been seen of him since that time and his parents and friends, after diligent search, have reached that conclusion. Accompanied by Arnold Westfall, of this city, Lloyd Holderbaum crossed the Missouri river in a skiff Sunday afternoon, the two boys spending some time on the south side fishing. On the return trip both of them jumped from the boat at once as it reached the north bank, and the boat was pushed back into the current, the Arnold boy falling into the water and getting so wet that he hurried at once to the Holderbaum ranch. His companion, however, announced his purpose to recover the boat, and disappeared through the brush to follow it down stream. That was the last seen of him, but tracks in the mud some distance lower down indicate that he waded into the river to secure the boat and was drowned. The boat was found on the opposite side of the river, the wind and current having apparently caused it to drift across. The accident happened near the Holderbaum ranch, about five miles below town. Several citizens have gone to the scene of the drowning to assist in efforts to recover the body. --- 23 July 1913 The body of Lloyd Holderbaum, who was drowned in the Missouri river Sunday night, was recovered last evening by searchers who were dragging the river. It was found a short distance below the place where the boy is supposed to have waded into the current to catch the drifting boat, and was partly embedded in the sand. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church this afternoon, with a large number of sympathizing neighbors and friends attending. The pall bearers were Robert Richardson, Virgil King, Herman Tope, Harry Deck, Charles Deck and Clarence Killion, each of whom was a friend of the deceased.
