Lois Arnelda (Moore) Gauley was born March 29, 1930, on the family farm in West Fork Township, Franklin County, a daughter of Curtis and Valma (Deshler) Moore. Lois attended Hall Country School and graduated from Sheffield High School in 1948. On May 20, 1951, Lois was united in marriage with Richard F. Gauley at the First Baptist Church in Sheffield. Soon after their marriage they made their home on a rural Sheffield farm and farmed there for more than 30 years. Following Richard's death in 1995, Lois moved to Hampton. Her faith was always an important part of her life. In Sheffield, at different times, she was an active member of the First Baptist Church and First United Methodist Church. Following her move to Hampton she became active in the First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ. In these churches she served in various leadership and service roles, some of which include: Sunday school teacher, circle member and treasurer. Lois was very active in the Westfork Cemetery Society, a board member of the Cerro Gordo County Extension Service, a 4-H leader as well as the treasurer of the Hampton Senior Citizen's Center. She also worked for the care centers in Rockwell and Sheffield. She enjoyed flowers, travel, reading and birds. She passed the love of nature and reading to her children. Lois is survived by her six children, her husband, 11 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one sister, and one aunt, Lois is preceded in death by her parents and husband.
