Moore was born April 20, 1908, in Talmage, Neb., a daughter of Robert Deshler and Eliza Webber Deshler. She attended grade school in Plainview, Mitchell County, Kansas. At the age of 18, she moved with her parents to Westfork Township, Franklin County, Iowa. On Dec. 24, 1928, she was united in marriage to Curtis Moore in the Baptist parsonage in Charles City. They returned to the Westfork area where they made their home farming until moving into Hampton in 1979. Valma enjoyed cooking and working with all types of crafts. She was a member of the Westfork United Methodist Church, the United Methodist womens group, the Westfork Cemetery Society and the Rebecca Lodge of Sheffield. Survivors include her husband, Curtis, of Hampton; two daughters, Lois Gauley and her husband, Richard, of Sheffield, and Bonnie DeVries and her husband, Kenneth, of Hampton; one son, Robert Moore and his wife, Nancy, of Alexander; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
