He was born Sept. 4, 1943, on the Sass farm in Hooper. He attended Scribner High School. He worked a variety of jobs, including mechanic, Fremont Tribune pressman, dry waller, taxi driver and fisherman in Alaska. He was presently employed with the City of Lincoln. He was born Sept. 4, 1943, on the Sass farm in Hooper. He attended Scribner High School. He worked a variety of jobs, including mechanic, Fremont Tribune pressman, dry waller, taxi driver and fisherman in Alaska. He was presently employed with the City of Lincoln. Loran was an avid motorcyclist and a member of Airheads Beemer Club for BMW owners. He attended many rallies throughout the United States, most recently the 2008 Husker Rally in Franklin. He also rode for pleasure with friends across the United States. Loran was a true outdoorsman. He was a skilled archer and hunter. Loran also trekked across the globe, including Jamaica, Thailand, Malaysia and Mexico. He was a lifelong adventurer and learner. Loran had a close circle of friends. He was known for his tireless work ethic and his sense of humor and easy-going manner. Loran was married to Nancy Lee Boies. They later divorced. Loran is survived by his daughter, Laurie Ann Hegemann of Fremont; his son, Daniel Christian Sass of Fremont; a sister, Nadine Marie Sass of Phoenix; a brother, Stanley Norman Sass of San Diego; and three grandsons, Schuyler Christian Hegemann, Dominick Lee Hegemann and Phoenix Logan Hegemann. Loran was preceded in death by his parents, Norman J.L. Sass and Ella Sass (Stadt); and his grandson, Nicholas Hegemann. Cremation took place. There is no visitation. Private family interment will be at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Hooper. Condolences and memorials (St. Jude's Children's Hospital) may be sent to the family c/o Laurie Hegemann, 3480 N. County Road 20 Ave., Fremont, NE 68025. Roper and Sons Funeral Home in Lincoln is in charge of arrangements.
