Mr. Thayer was born June 24, 1916, on a farm near Nora. He attended District 53 rural school and Ruskin High School. He had lived in the Ruskin, Nora, Cadams and Superior communities. He married Lillian Smith March 23, 1943. He was a World War II Army veteran and was a former member of the Cadams School Board. Surviving are his wife, Lillian of Superior; four sons, Steven of Higginsville, MO., Reg of Amarillo, Texas, Stan of Meeker, Colo., and Jeff of Altus, Okla.; one brother, Marvin of Nelson; three sisters, Mrs. Jerome (Genevieve) Kohl of Hardy, Dorothy Corman of Superior and Mrs. Ivan (Fern) Troudt of Nelson; and seven grandchildren. Megrue-Price Funeral Home at Superior is in charge of arrangements. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Loren Wendell Thayer, son of Lovell and Alma Jones Thayer was born on a farm near Nora, Nebraska, June 24th, 1916, and died at the Brodstone Memorial Nuckolls County Hospital March 13, at the age of 68 years, 8 months, 16 days. He was one of six children. He attended a rural school, District 53, and graduated from Ruskin High School. He was baptized at the Community Church in Ruskin in 1934 by Rev. Caldwell. After graduation Loren was engaged in farming near Nora with his father. He would also pick corn in Illinois in the fall. Loren enlisted in the Army Air Corps January 13, 1942, at Fort Crook, Nebraska. While at Seven Mile Camp near Spokane, he met and married Lillian M. Smith March 22, 1943, at Couer d'Alene, Idaho. He was discharged from the service December 5, 1945, at Scott Field, Illinois. They lived in the Cadams, Superior area for 36 years, where he was engaged in farming at the time of his death. Loren was a hard-working, honest, efficient man and was a devoted husband and father. He provided well for his family. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mrs. Faye (Lois) Snyder, Grant, Nebraska. He leaves to mourn his death his wife Lillian; four sons, Steven and wife Nancy of Higginsville, Missouri, Reg of Amarillo, Texas, Stan and wife Joy of Meeker, Colorado, and Jeff and wife Rose of Altus, Oklahoma; one brother, Marvin L. of Nelson; three sisters, Mrs. Jerome (Genevieve) Kohl, Hardy, Dorothy Corman, Superior, Mrs. Ivan (Fern) Troudt, Nelson; seven grandchildren, other relatives and friends. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Funeral services were held Friday, March 15, 1985, at 2:00 p.m. from the Nora Methodist Church with Rev. Paul Samuelson officiating. Melba Lynch, organist, played "How Great Thou Art" and "In The Garden." Casketbearers were Kenneth Corman, Arlo Thayer, Jerry Kohl, Wally Kohl, Daryl Snyder and Gary Snyder. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery. Megrue-Price Funeral Home of Superior was in charge of the arrangements.
