Read More	HOFFERBER, LORENE MARGUERITE—Lorene Marguerite Hofferber was born to Conrad Hofferber St. and Marguerite (Kammersell) Hofferber on Oct. 14, 1912, at Bruning, and passed away Feb. 23, 1995, at the Fillmore County Hospital in Geneva, at the age of 82 years. She was one of 10 children in the family. Lorene graduated from Geneva High School in 1930, and then taught school in a rural schoolhouse near her home for a short time. She then went to work as a housekeeper for the Laun and Bassett families of Geneva and the Rolin Anderson family of Lincoln. She moved to California and worked as a housekeeper for the Colonel Wallace Taylor family and then went to work as a telephone operator in Los Angeles. While in California she later was employed as a cook for the Buster Crabbe family. During World War II, she took employment at Douglas aircraft, but was soon asked to return and help at the Buster Crabbe home. Upon her return to Geneva, she was employed as a cook at Uhlig’s café. She then began her employment at Doctors Ashby and Ashby where she remained for 37 years. Lorene often remarked that this was her very favorite job. Lorene was baptized Dec. 8, 1912, in the Lutheran Church in Bruning, and confirmed on July 14, 1940, in the Emanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Santa Barbara, Calif. She was a member of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Geneva and also a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority. Lorene enjoyed cooking, crocheting and playing cards. She was possessed with a very quick wit and a great sense of humor, which endeared her to all she met. The people met and the friends made during her life were most important to her and she cultivated those friendships throughout her life. Certain people are blessed with an ability to tell a good story, and Lorene will always be remembered as one of the very best at doing so. She enjoyed reading and did so with a careful eye toward finding some article which she could clip out and send to some unsuspecting friend in jest. Lorene never let the infirmities that she suffered get her down. If you visited Lorene you never spent time dwelling on her problems, she wouldn’t allow that, in fact, you usually left feeling better than when you came. Lorene was preceded in death by her parents, Conrad and Marguerite; brothers, Conrad, George, Fred, William and Barthold; sisters, Katherine and Amelia; one brother and one sister in infancy; three nephews, two nieces, one great-nephew and one great-niece. She is survived by one sister-in-law, Irma Hofferber; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews, and two great-great-great-nephews, also other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were conducted from the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Geneva on Monday, Feb. 27, with Pastor Otto Dale officiating. Susan Kleinschmidt accompanied Kelly Eich, Barb Eberhart, and Chelsea Eberhart, who sang “How Great Thou Art” and “Just A closer Walk With Thee.” The congregational hymn was “Children of the Heavenly Father.” Casket bearers were Chris Boland, William C. Eich, Daniel, Kent, Stephen and Thomas Hofferber. Honorary bearers were James R. Ashby, Charles Barbur Sr., Charles Miller and Marvin Schademann. Interment was in the Geneva Public Cemetery.
