The Rev. Robert Hannemann officiated at the services. Lawrence Otten of Monticello died on Thursday, November 18 at the Monticello Senior Home, following an extended illness. Lawrence Henry Otten was bom March 21,1916 near Anarnosa, the son of Otto and Grace Gerdes Otten. He attended rural schools near his home. Lawrence H. Otten and Margaret Ann Frasher were married July 13, 1940 at Anamosa. The couple made their home in Anamosa where he operated the DX Service Station from 1943 until 1949. In December of 1949, he started selling Chevrolet and Oldsmobile cars for Jack Fahey. His wife died on June 13,1958. Lawrence H. Otten and Helen Ahlrich Husmann were married November 6,1960 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Anamosa. He quit selling cars in August 1961 and moved to Monticello where he became the milk inspector for the Monticello Cheese Plant. In August 1964, he became the mail room supervisor at the Iowa Men's Reformatory. He retired January 12,1976. Lawrence Otten was a member of St Matthew's Lutheran Church, baptized April 24,1916 at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, Monticello, where he confirmed his faith on April 13,1930. Otten served two terms on the Anamosa City Council, five years on the Fire Department, four years on the Chamber of Commerce and was also president of the Lions Club. He helped start the National Little League Program and National Babe Ruth Program and was chairman of the first Swimming Pool Committee. Survivors include his wife; a son, Edward of Iowa City; a daughter, Pamela Sue Schoenbeck of Anamosa; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was the last of ten children, preceded in death by his parents; his wife Margaret; six brothers and three sisters. Casket bearers were Russell Williams, Don Hagen, Melvin Hein, Norman Laber, Steven Otten and Merlin Husmann
