OTTEN Clarence M Otten, 58 died at the Anamosa Community hospital early Sunday morning, Oct 15. He had been in ill health for several months. He was born near Amber, Jan 23, 1920,the son of Otto and Grace Gerdes Otten. He attended rural Jones county schools, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942-1945. Clarence Otten and Gertrude Wenger were married July 12, 1945. They lived in Jones county and moved later to southern states where he was employed in the construction business. Later they moved to southern Illinois where they farmed until 1967 when they returned to Jones county and were in business in Amber until ill health forced his retirement. Mr. Otten is survived by his wife, Gertrude, two children, Stephen of Center Junction and Penny Kohl of Clarence. Also surviving are four grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Fred (Hannah) Schlieman of Monticello and two brothers, William of Onslow and Lawrence of Monticello. He was preceded in death by two infant children, his parents, four brothers and two sisters. Funeral services were Tuesday afternoon, October 17, at the Wayne Zion Lutheran church with burial in the Wayne cemetery. The Rev. Harvey O. Gilbertson officiated at the services. Military services were conducted by the Amvets, VFW and the American Legion Posts of Anamosa. Casket bearers were James White, Kermit Twilo, Lawrence Siebels, Arnold Wunsch, Harold Johnson and Gordon Kellander.
