Interment in the Morgan Township Cemetery, Schleswig. Mrs. Miller died June 8, 1898, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison. She was 96. Loretta Christine Schmidt, the daughter of Hans and Marie (Hinricks) Schmidt, was born October 17, 1892, in Charlotte, Iowa. Loretta was baptized and later confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Charlotte. She attended school in Schleswig and made her home with her sister and her husband, Dr. and Mrs. Walter Schultz for a number of years. On March 16, 1921, she was united in marriage to Henry Petersen. They farmed near Schleswig. Mr. Petersen died in 1930. After his death, she sold the farm and moved into Schleswig and lived there for 21 years. She spent time with her mother and her brother and his wife in Omaha, Nebr. On July 7, 1936, she was married to George Miller in Omaha. Nebr., and together lived in Omaha. Mr. Miller passed away in 1951. Loretta then moved into the Bock Apartments and later into the Suhr Apartments. In October 1978, she entered Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, where she made her home until her death. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Schleswig for over 50 years and sang in the choir. Surviving are her nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, four brothers and two sisters. Schleswig Leader, June 22, 1989
