Loretta was born March 28, 1914, near Freeman, South Dakota to John and Katherine (Bauer) Dangel. She graduated from Hurley High School and then attended Notre Dame College in Mitchell, South Dakota. She obtained her teaching certificate from Mount Marty College in Yankton and taught of number of years at country and parochial schools in both South Dakota and Nebraska.. In August of 1937, she married Leon Kautz at Idylwilde. After their marriage, they lived in the Freeman area until moving to Yankton in 1943. She worked for various food services at Yankton College and Sacred Heart Hospital and was also a desk clerk at the Gurney Hotel. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Yankton. Survivors include her two sons: Mike Kautz and Tom Kautz, both of Yankton; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Sr. Peter Dangel PBVM of Aberdeen, South Dakota; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sisters: Mary Wek, Katie Dangel and Sr. Agnes Dangel; and four brothers: John, Frank, Arthur and Albert Dangel. -------------------------
