Description	:	Burned to Death - From Our Miland (sic, probably should be Midland) Correspondent - Little Letta Crites, the nine-year-old daughter of ex-Sheriff Crites, was burned to death while visiting at the home of her uncle, Mr. Jas. Saxton, last Saturday. Read More	Burned to Death - From Our Miland (sic, probably should be Midland) Correspondent - Little Letta Crites, the nine-year-old daughter of ex-Sheriff Crites, was burned to death while visiting at the home of her uncle, Mr. Jas. Saxton, last Saturday. Mr. Saxton had been burning some cornstalks on his place, and, after the flames had died down, had gone to another part of the field, first taking the precaution to warn the little one and her older sister and younger brother, who were playing with her, not to get too near the fire. The next he knew of them he heard a scream, and, looking around, saw the younger sister's clothes in flames and her grandmother rushing from the house to put them out. Assistance was of no avail, however, for before anything could be done her clothes were almost burned off of her, and her flesh had become fairly hardened by the heat. Fortunately the wounds were so deep that she suffered little or no pain, though she remained conscious until early Sunday morning (about twelve hours,) when she passed away. The funeral was held at the house Monday, Rev. J. M. Dresser officiating, and was one of the largest attended ever held in this part of the country. Little Letta was one of the best of children, and our entire community will unite with the bereft parents in their deep sorrow over her loss.
