Read More	KEARNEY — Loretta Pearl Emal, 98, of Minden died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015, at Mount Carmel Home Keens Memorial in Kearney. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John’s Catholic Church in Minden with the Rev. James Benton officiating. Burial will be at Minden Cemetery. Layton-Craig Funeral Home in Minden is in charge of the arrangements. Loretta was born on Oct. 22, 1916, on a farm near Minden to Daniel and Della (Lewis) Cronin. She grew up on their family farm northwest of Minden. On Aug. 7, 1938, she married Orval Emal at St. John’s Catholic Church in Minden. They made their home in Minden and were blessed with five children, Betty, Sharon, Linda, Steve and Tim. Loretta always enjoyed being a homemaker and sewed many outfits for her daughters. She loved making crafts and had crocheted afghans for all of her children and grandchildren. She was very meticulous about her flower garden and yard. After her own children were grown, she began baby-sitting for many of the neighborhood children. Loretta was truly a precious “pearl” as she faithfully fulfilled her vocation in life as a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. After completing the eighth grade, she stayed home to help her mother with her younger siblings so that all of them were able to finish high school. After her marriage to Orval, Loretta devoted herself to her family. After Orval retired, they enjoyed taking many trips and were involved in activities in their church and community and their grandchildren’s activities. They were so fortunate to have celebrated 67 years of marriage. Loretta was a lifelong member of St. John’s Catholic Church and an active member of the Altar Society for many years. She had served in various leadership roles. Loretta was an inspiration to all her family, and she cared for all she knew to the best of her ability. She continued to help with whatever was needed even after she moved to Hinterlong Assisted Living in Minden. Her family loved her deeply and will always cherish her as she goes to be with her heavenly family. Survivors include three daughters, Betty Atchison and husband Andy of Manhattan, Kan., Sharon Kroll and husband Bill of Gibbon and Linda Soderquist of Axtell; two sons, Steve Emal and wife Jan of Shelton and Tim Emal and wife Denise of Minden; 17 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Richard Cronin and wife Jane of Maryville, Mo., and John Cronin and wife Polly of Greeley, Colo.; and three sisters, Della Rounds of Walnut Creek, Calif., Edna Stichweh of Hastings and Vivian Holbein of Cozad. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orval; son-in-law, Leo Soderquist; six brothers; and three sisters.
