Description	:	Loris Earl "Bill" Brown, 92, of rural Pittsburg, passed away at 1:42 p.m. Saturday, January 25, 2014 at his home. He was born August 28, 1921 at Pittsburg, the son of Lonnie and Georgia Lelia (Smith) Brown. Mr. Brown served in the Seabees in the United States Navy in Alaska from 1941 to 1945, before being honorably discharged. On August 28, 1951, he was united in marriage to Viola D. Durfey at Kansas City, Missouri. They lived in Kansas City for over 30 years before retiring in 1983 and moving back to southeast Kansas. Viola preceded him in death on March 8, 2002. Mr.... Read More	Loris Earl "Bill" Brown, 92, of rural Pittsburg, passed away at 1:42 p.m. Saturday, January 25, 2014 at his home. He was born August 28, 1921 at Pittsburg, the son of Lonnie and Georgia Lelia (Smith) Brown. Mr. Brown served in the Seabees in the United States Navy in Alaska from 1941 to 1945, before being honorably discharged. On August 28, 1951, he was united in marriage to Viola D. Durfey at Kansas City, Missouri. They lived in Kansas City for over 30 years before retiring in 1983 and moving back to southeast Kansas. Viola preceded him in death on March 8, 2002. Mr. Brown worked for Borden Dairy for over thirty years in Kansas City. Upon returning to Pittsburg, he assisted his brother, Ray at Brownie's Landscaping for a number of years. Membership was held in the Mirza Shrine, Scottish Rite Consistory of Ft. Scott, and Pittsburg Masonic Lodge #187 of Pittsburg, where he was a member for 65 years, Frontenac American Legion, and the Teamsters Union. Survivors include two brothers, Don S. Brown and Joyce of Tulsa, OK and Larry D. Brown and Catherine of Franklin, KS; a sister Norma June Booe and her husband, Charlie of Pittsburg; two sisters-in-law, Marilyn Brown of Pittsburg and Virginia Brown of Frontenac; a special niece, Julie Redd of Pittsburg, who helped take care of him; two loving companion dogs, Sadie and Hooey; a step-grandson, Ray Searcy of Oregon; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by parents, his wife, two sisters, Mardell Denning and Marjorie Manley; four brothers, George Brown, Lonzo "Bud" Brown, Raymond Brown and Dale Brown; two infant sisters, Martha Brown and Betty Jean Brown; a step-daughter, Sandra Marie Bond; and a step-grandson, Matthew Searcy. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday (Jan. 30) at the Bedene Funeral Home in Arma with Elder. Vivan Davidson officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery, where the Frontenac American Legion will provide graveside military services. Masonic services will be given at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Bedene Chapel where the family will receive friends following until 8 p.m. Friends may call after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Bedene Chapel or at the home of his brother, Larry, at 207 W. 3rd St., Franklin, KS. The family suggests memorials to the SEK Humane Society or the Franklin Community Center. Donations may be sent to or left at the Bedene Funeral Home, 517 E.
