The double ring ceremony was read by the Rev Victor Jordening. Mrs. Verland Tietjen sang "The Wedding Prayer" and "The Lord's Prayer" accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Melvin Kugler. The bride entered the church with her father. Her gown was of shadow Chantilly lace over satin, fashioned with a molded bodice and a high Queen Ann collar. The full skirt flowed into a long train. ORCHID FEATURED Her double-tier fingertip veil was fastened to a cap of Venetian lace. She carried an orchid centered in a large bouquet of white roses. The bride's sister, Miss Deloris Tietjen, was maid of honor. Mrs. Harold Kasl of Belleville, Kan., and Mrs. Ruby Johnson of Byron were bridesmatrons (sic) and Miss Betty Ann Hill of Chicago, Ill., and Miss Helen Wieseman of Osceola were bridesmaids. The maid of honor was gowned in yellow, styled with a fitted lace bodice, full net skirt and a cape trimmed with lace, She carried a bouquet of yellow and white carnations with blue baby breath. The other attendants' dresses were in blue, in the same style, They carried colonial bouquets of yellow carnations and stephanotis. Each had a head piece of stephanotis. Bill Morris of Superior was best man. Ushering were Ray Tietjen, Jack Swanson, Don Boyd and Melvin Kugler, all of Superior. Messrs. Boyd and Kugler lighted the candles preceding the ceremony. The bride's mother was dressed in navy blue with white accessories and the groom's sister, Mrs. Dick Meyer of St. Louis, Mo., wore a dress of printed blue silk with white accessories. Their corsages were peach roses. RECEIVE AT HOME A reception for approximately 250 guests were held at the home of the bride's parents following the ceremony. Mrs. Rudolph Hoops of Byron cut the wedding cake and Mrs. Viola Wieseman of Osceola poured. Miss Willa Hill of Hebron was in charge of the guest book and Mmes. Martin Eitzmann, Orville Bokenkamp and Merlin Heitman opened the gifts. After a honeymoon in the East, Mr. and Mrs. Hill will make their home in Superior. She is a graduate of Immanuel School of Nursing in Omaha and he received his master's degree at the New York School of Retailing in New York City. ========================= The Superior Express (Superior, NE), Thursday, November 3, 2014; pg. 5 Lorna Esther Hill, the daughter of Edwin and Rosa (Heitmann) Tietjen, was born on June 18, 1928 on a farm near Byron, Nebraska. She passed away on October 22, 2014, at the Superior Good Samaritan Society at Superior, Nebraska at the age of 86 years, 4 months, 4 days. Lorna was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church rural Byron by Pastor Lentz in 1928 and confirmed in 1942 at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Byron by Pastor Weltner. She attended Byron country school and graduated from Byron High School. She earned her nursing degree from Omaha Immanuel Hospital School of Nursing in 1949. On July 23, 1950 she was united in marriage to William "Bill" Hill at the Centennial Lutheran Church in Superior and to this union five girls were born. Lorna was a 64 year member of the Centennial Lutheran Church, a member of the Brodstone Memorial Hosptial Board for six years, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the LWML at Centennial Lutheran Church. Lorna was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter Carla Hill; brothers, Ray Tietjen and Verland Tietjen and his wife Merna. She is survived by her husband, Bill, of Superior; daughters, Susan Penner and husband, Rod, of South Bend, Neb.; Linda Daugherty and husband, Tim, of Omaha, Neb., Pam Frerichs and husband, Mark, of Papillion, Neb., and Julie Allison and husband, Wayne, of Edmond, Okla.; seven grandchildren, Allison (Jon) Bruntz, Andrew Penner, Ryan Daugherty, Rebecca Daugherty, Brent Frerichs (Kathleen), Ben Frerichs (Kari), Jake Allison and three great-grandchildren, Jack, Kate and William. Lorna is also survived by a brother, Egbert Tietjen and wife, Mary, of Chester, Neb., and a sister,Delores Dahl and husband, John, of Davenport, Neb., long with many relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held on Monday, October 27, 2014 at 11 a.m. from the Centennial Lutheran Church, Superior, Neb., with Pastor Patrick Flynn officiating. Music was "On Eagles Wings" and "The Lord's Prayer," with Stephanie Thayer as soloist. A congregational hymn was "Amazing Grace" with Carlita Price as organist. Visitation was held on Sunday, Oct. 26, 2014, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. with the family present to greet friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Pallbearers were Allison Bruntz, Andrew Penner, Ryan Daugherty, Rebecca Daugherty, Brent Frerichs, Ben Frerichs and Jake Allisson. Interment was in the Evergreen Cemetery, Superior, Neb. Memorials are suggested to go to the Centennial Lutheran Church or the Nebraska Community Foundation, c/o Byron Community Building Fund Megrue-Price Funeral Home of Superior, Neb., was in charge of the arrangements.
