Mrs. Chilton was born in Surry County on June 1, 1926, to Roosevelt and Rena Anna Johnson Tucker. She was a retired employee of Perry Manufacturing in Mount Airy and was a member of Simmons Grove Baptist Church. Mrs. Chilton was born in Surry County on June 1, 1926, to Roosevelt and Rena Anna Johnson Tucker. She was a retired employee of Perry Manufacturing in Mount Airy and was a member of Simmons Grove Baptist Church. Surviving are her stepmother, Claudia Walker Tucker of Pilot Mountain; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda Chilton Covington and husband Larry of Pilot Mountain; a son and daughter-in-law, Garry E. Chilton Sr. and wife Deborah, also of Pilot Mountain; five grandchildren, Laura Covington, Adrienne Isaacs and husband Byron, Jamie Chilton, Lance Covington and wife Jennifer and Garry "Chuck" Chilton Jr. and wife Lesa; three great-grandchildren, Meredith Tuttle, Alexanderia Burch and Tyler Covington; six sisters, Lillie Midkiff and Agnes, both of Pilot Mountain, Nancy Ashburn and Annie Turney, both of Greensboro and Fay Lowe and Darlene McMillian, both of Pilot Mountain; and three brothers, Tommy Tucker of Mount Airy and Robert Tucker and Frank, both of Pilot Mountain. Mrs. Chilton was preceded in death by her husband, Eldon Lee Chilton; and a brother, Geder Tucker. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon, May 14, 2000, at Simmons Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Stewart Mauck, the Rev. Elise Brown and the Rev. Rodger Easter. Burial will be in the Simmons Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Chilton is at the Cox-Needham Funeral Home and Chapel in Pilot Mountain and will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the funeral services. The family will receive friends at the Cox-Needham Chapel on Saturday evening, May 13, 2000, from 7 to 9 p.m. and other times at the Chilton home, Simmons Road, Pilot Mountain. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Surry County, 1326 N. Main St., Mount Airy, NC 27030 or to Simmons Grove Baptist Church Missionary Fund, c/o Judy Chilton, 442 Simmons Grove Church Road, Pilot Mountain, NC 27041. The Chilton family is being served by the Cox-Needham Funeral Home and Chapel in Pilot Mountain.
