She was born Dec. 7. 1883 near Monterey, daughter of Isaac B and Perthena Colaw Simmons. Her husband, Howard Jackson Bowers, died Oct 28. 1945. Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Rachel Florence Harper of Blue Grass; five nephews, and four nieces. A service was conducted 2 p.m. Sunday in Obaugh Funeral Home by the Rev. Kenneth Home. Highland Recorder June 11, 1915 BOWERS - SIMMONS On June 2nd, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Simmons, the father and mother of the bride, at high noon, was the scene of a beautiful wedding when Mr. Howard I. Bowers and Miss Lavernia Simmons were united in matrimony. Pearly Simmons and Miss Vandevender were the only attendants. The ceremony was solemnized by C.B. Rutledge. After congratulations the party retired to the dining-room where a bountiful dinner was served. On Thursday the party went to the home of the groom and were received by the mother and quite a number of relatives and friends and again partook of a bountiful dinner. The contracting parties are two of Highland's best young people. We wish them a long, prosperous and happy life.
