SIMMONS Funeral rites for William Pearl Simmons, who died Friday evening at his home in Crabbottom Valley were held on Sunday afternoon at two o’clock from Union Chapel Methodist church, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. H.E. Skelton. The services were largely attended by people from various sections of this and adjoining counties. He was well known and had a large circle of friends and relatives. WILLIAM PEARL SIMMONS William Pearl Simmons, well known citizen and prosperous farmer of Crabbottom Valley, took his own life Friday afternoon about three o’clock. Going to an upstairs room of the home, he tied a strong cloth about his neck and twisted this with a mop handle. When found by some members of the household, he was lying across a bed with one end of the handle still in his grip. The family physician was at once called and upon arrival he pronounced him dead. The county coroner. Dr. Chas. B. Fox, was called, and upon examination and evidence found, he called it a case of suicide. Mr. Simmons was fifty-one years of age, only son of the late Isaac B. Simmons and Mrs. Perthena Colaw Simmons, prominent citizens and large land-owners. He is survived by his widow, the former Miss Maggie Calhoun and one son and one daughter, Marvin Simmons and Miss Lorraine Simmons, both at home. Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Howard Bowers, Mrs. Florence Harper, and Mrs. Albie Puffenbarger, all of Crabbottom Valley. Many other relatives survive of a large family connection, all well known and prominent citizens. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon. Interment was in the family plot in the Union Chapel cemetery.
