Description	:	He was born in Niobrara on January 12, 1910, the son of Louis F. and Bessie (Tichy) Skokan. He grew up on a farm in the Sparta township area and attended District 88 School, and graduating from the Niobrara High School in 1929. Read More	He was born in Niobrara on January 12, 1910, the son of Louis F. and Bessie (Tichy) Skokan. He grew up on a farm in the Sparta township area and attended District 88 School, and graduating from the Niobrara High School in 1929. As a young man he was active in Sokol gymnastics and had performed at the 1934 Worlds Fair in Chicago. He had worked for the U.S. Coast and Geodectic Survey. On March 4, 1935, he married Emeline Jelen at Pierce. They resided at Bloomfield before moving to the Verdigre-Niobrara area in 1941 to farm, and where they raised their family: Phyllis, Larry, Robert, Linda and Nancy. He was current president of the ZCBJ Lodge at Niobrara and past Nebraska president and vice-president of ZCBJ. He became a 50-year member in 1976. He was a local and state director of the Farmers Union and a member of the Niobrara Farmer Co-op Association Board for 28 years. He was current chairman of the West Knox Rural Water Project Board and a member of the Lower Niobrara Natural Resources District Board. Mr. Skokan had been a 4-H leader for 20 years, and played in various bands. He had been a member of the election board and Sparta School Board. He and his wife, Emeline, celebrated their 50th anniversary in March, 1985.
