Tucker, 93, former Marshall County treasurer and area banker will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Avey Funeral Home and burial will be in Hauser Cemetery near Whitten. A native of Hardin County, he was born Sept. 6, 1870, east of Eldora, son of Amos and Emily Tucker, and attended schools in that area until moving to Clay Center, Kan., in 1888 where he graduated from high school. Following a time in Chicago, where he attended business college, he returned to Iowa in 1897 and was employed at the Whitten State Bank and was deputy auditor of Hardin County from Jan. 1, 1900, to Dec. 31, 1905. He was elected Hardin County Recorder in 1906, serving until 1910 when he moved to Kersey, Colo., where he managed the Kersey State Bank and the Plattville State Bank until 1920. Upon his return to Iowa in 1921, he purchased the Liscomb State Bank and was cashier there until coming to Marshalltown 37 years ago. Mr. Tucker was affiliated with the late Albert Odett in the real estate and insurance business until 1930 when he was appointed deputy county treasurer, later being elected county treasurer, a post he held until 1952 when he retired. His first marriage was to Nellie E. Lockard June 21, 1889, at Whitten and she died in 1934. On Aug. 25, 1940 he married Estella Kingsbury and she survives with three sons, George B. of Carbondale, Ill.; Robert L. of Austin, Minn., and Carlton A., Marshalltown. Also surviving are two stepsons, Leonard Kingsbury of this city, Dr. Kenneth Kingsbury of Ottumwa and a stepdaughter, Mrs. Bernice Niemi of Juneau, Alaska, and eight grandchildren. Mr. Tucker was a member of Marshall Lodge No. 108, AF&AM, and Central Christian Church. EDITOR'S NOTE: Another long time public servant is gone in the death of L. B. Tucker. His career was unusual in that he held public office in two counties - Hardin as recorder and deputy auditor as a young man and Marshall as treasurer in what most people consider retirement years. What is even more unique - and a credit to his integrity - is that he won public election after a career as a banker in an era when that profession was not as popular as it is today.
