Martin of Eldora and a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Amos Tucker, pioneer residents. A brother Lew Tucker, resides in Marshalltown. She leaves three daughters, Mrs. Eben Schultz of Bloomington, Ill, Mrs. Edward Edwards of Benson, Minn., and Mrs. Dorothy Francis of San Francisco. Mrs. Welch was visiting Miss Myrtle Parks of Grinnell when taken ill. She had planned to come to Eldora yesterday to spend some time with her sister. The remains were brought to the Wehrman-Andrie funeral home yesterday. Funeral arrangements have not been announced. The Herald-Ledger Eldora, IA [6-4-1936] SERVICES ARE HELD FOR MRS. IDA WELCH Mrs. Ida L. Tucker Welch was born February 14, 1864 in Shopiere, Wis. Her parents were Amos Tucker and Emily Almyra Forsythe. She was one of seven children, only two of whom are living, Mrs. W. J. Martin, Eldora, and L. B. Tucker, Marshalltown. The family came to Hardin County when Mrs. Welch was four years old and settled on a farm southeast of Eldora. After she attended rural school she received further education in the old Eldora academy and was for two years a teacher in the schools of Hardin County. Throughout her life she was very fond of reading and study and was always eager to keep in touch with current events and literature. On October 20, 1886 she was united in marriage with Clarence E. Welch at the home of her parents in Clay Center, Kansas, where the family had moved. To them were born four children; Mrs. Floy Schultz of Bloomington, Ill; Mrs. Marian Edwards, Benson, Minn; Mrs. Dorothy Francis, Calif., and a son William Delevan, who served his country two years with the A.E.F. in France in the World war. His death in February 1923, was a severe blow to his mother for whom he had cared for devotedly. After her husbands death in 1919, Mrs. Welch mad her home largely with her children in various parts of the country, with her sister, Mrs. Martin, and with Miss Myrtle Parks of Grinnell, who was like another daughter to her. Outside her home Mrs. Welch's interests extended into community life. She was a member of the D.A.R. and the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Eldora Congregational church. She was planning to spend the summer in Eldora with her sister, Mrs. Martin, when on Saturday, May 23, while with her friend Miss Parks in Grinnell, she was suddenly stricken with a severe throat infection which could not be combated. She died Wednesday, May 27, in the Grinnell hospital. Funeral services were held in Eldora on Friday, May 29, conducted by Rev. A. E. Fish, pastor of the Congregational church. The committal service was in charge of the Eastern Star directed by Mrs. Floyd Price, worthy matron. Mrs. Welch was beautiful in face and in character. She made and kept friends easily. She loved the beautiful things in life - books and flowers and little children. Her little granddaughter has paid to her the perfect tribute - "She was always so sweet."
