Martin, 91, died at her home Monday following a cerebral hemorrhage. Mrs. Martin was born in Wisconsin but had lived in Eldora since 1868. She was married here Jan. 27, 1887. Her husband died in 1948, and one sister proceeded her in death. Surviving are one brother, L. B. Tucker of Marshalltown, who is Marshall county treasurer; three nieces and three nephews. The body was taken to Longenecker funeral home, where arrangements for services are being made. The Eldora Herald Eldora, IA [1-1952] The death of Mrs. Will Martin leaves another gap in the thin ranks of Eldora's pioneers. Ninety-two years is a long time to live in one place. All too few Eldorans of today know Mrs. Martin for the capable, cheerful, generous woman she was. In her day, and it was a great day, she was a charming hostess, a charter member of the Twentieth Century club, if my memory serves me right, and a power and mainspring of the Congregational women's group. I venture to say that the young women of the current Fellowship would gape in amazement at the number of church suppers she engineered. Those were the days when only a few women were trusted to make the toothsome chicken pies, beans and brown bread that made the Congregational New England dinner an Eldora tradition. And Mrs. Martin was among the select few. My happy memory of Mrs. Martin and Uncle Bill includes an open buggy sagging under the weight of small fry who clamored for a ride and a glimpse of Uncle Bill's prowess with a slingshot. Until her death Mrs. Martin kept up a correspondence with some of them. The Herald Eldora, IA [1-1952] MARTIN SERVICES HELD THURSDAY Final rites were conducted at the Longnecker Funeral Home Thursday afternoon for Mrs. Eda Tucker Martin, who died suddenly at the residence on Washington Street, Jan. 14. Rev. Ralph Imes officiated and interment was in the Eldora Cemetery. Mrs. Martin is survived by one brother, L. B. Tucker, Marshalltown, who is county treasurer of Marshall County; three nieces, Mrs. W. E. Schultz, Mrs. W. E. Edwards and Mrs. Dorothy Francis; and four nephews, George, Carlton and Robert Tucker, and Edwin A. Phillips. Eda Tucker Martin was born on April 23, 1860, at Shopiere, Wis., and came to Hardin County with her parents at an early age. On Jan. 27, 1887, she was married to William John Martin, who proceeded her in death on June 5, 1948. She and Mr. Martin had no children of their own, but took a special interest in many young people of the community, who held then in affectionate regard.
