His death occurred Saturday. The services which were held in the Baptist Church were conducted by the Rev. Arthur McPherron. Interment was in the Malvern Cemetery. The Rev. Mr. McPherron read the following life sketch and tribute. Louis Bass, son of Zeno and Harriet Bass, was born on a farm in Rawles Township, Mills County, Feb. 8, 1833, and departed from this life, following a brief illness, at Glen Haven Home in Glenwood on Saturday, Sept. 20. He had attained the age of 86 years, 7 months and 12 days. All of his life was spent on the family farm in Rawles Township. There he received his education in the old Four Corners School and there he grew to young manhood. On Feb. 8,1905 he was united in marriage with Miss Golda N. Hubbard at the home of here parents in Rawles township. To this marriage were born two children: Austin L. Bass of Malvern and a daughter, Maxine, who passed away in infancy. For some 64 years this couple lived together sharing life’s blessings and joys, as well as its heartaches and sorrows. There was steadfastness of love and faithfulness, that cannot be broken -- even by death. Although he always accompanied his wife to the services of the Church, he had never surrendered his heart to Christ. On March 24, 1968 at the age of 85 he came forward in this Church confessing the Lord Jesus Christ as his Personal Savior. On March 31, 1968 he followed his Lord in baptism becoming a member of Glenwood First Baptist church. In the days that followed, as his physical health declined, his hold on things eternal became stronger and stronger, and he often prayed audibly with his pastor to the Christ whom he loved. Of course, his greatest love was for his family -- his wife, his son and family-- grandson and family, and happy were the hours that he spent with them. But he also loved his farm, the good earth, and growing things. He also took great pride in the fine Angus cattle and good Percheron horses he raised. He had been a member of the Farm Bureau since the time of its organization many years ago. He was knowledgeable of the times in which he lived and loved to discuss important issues of the day with his many friends. He was a man of deep and unswerving personal convictions and unquestioned character. He was true-blue through and through and the world sorely needs more men like him today. The last of seven children, he is survived by his wife, Golda Bass of Glenwood, a son and daughter-in-law, Austin and Louise Bass; a grandson and wife, Richard and Sharon Bass and greatgrandson, Douglas, all of Malvern. These and a host of other relatives and friends will not forget the life of this good man.
