Description	:	Dayton Review October 8, 1914 OBITUARY Lewis Ericson was born in Uppsala, Sweden, September 11, 1831, and died at his home in Dayton, Iowa, September 27, 1914, aged 83 years and 14 days. He grew to manhood in his native land, and came to this country in 1856, locating at Chicago, where he spent two years as a sailor on Lake Michigan. He moved to Bishop Hill, Illinois, coming to Iowa in 1886, locating on the farm northwest of town which he owned until his death. Read More	Dayton Review October 8, 1914 OBITUARY Lewis Ericson was born in Uppsala, Sweden, September 11, 1831, and died at his home in Dayton, Iowa, September 27, 1914, aged 83 years and 14 days. He grew to manhood in his native land, and came to this country in 1856, locating at Chicago, where he spent two years as a sailor on Lake Michigan. He moved to Bishop Hill, Illinois, coming to Iowa in 1886, locating on the farm northwest of town which he owned until his death. He was united in marriage to Miss Augusta Newstrand, March 14, 1863, who died October 5, 1884, while on a visit among her people at Bishop Hill. Five children, two sons and three daughters were born of their union, one daughter has passed away, the others, Miss Ida Ericsson, of Butte, Montana, Victor Ericsson, of Dennison, Texas, Miss Lavina Ericsson of this place, and Dr. C. M. Ericsson of Gowrie, survive to mourn his death. He was married a second time October 20, 1886, to Mrs. Anna Peterson, who passed away January 17, 1908. He retired from the farm in 1891 and moved into Dayton where he has since lived. His daughter Lavina has cared for him a number of years, although he was very spry up to the day of his death. Mr. Ericsson was a man of more than ordinary ability, highly respected among his neighbors and associates, and held many offices in the management of local affairs. Always jovial he was popular with all, and a host of friends sympathize with the bereaved family in his death. His funeral exercises were held from the home last Thursday afternoon, Rev. Johnston of the Swedish M. E. church conducting the services, and his remains were laid to rest in the Dayton cemetery with the impressive ceremony of the Masonic order of which he had been a faithful member nearly forty years. He took a deep interest in those around him, and to know him was to love him. He passed after living to a good old age, and will be greatly missed in the community. Contributor: abbylynn (47205881)
