Jauernig Decker. He attended school in Burlington. Louis was a well known butcher for M.L. grocery store and then moved to California. On May 15, 1939, he was married to Thelma Irene Schankie at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Burlington, and to this union there were six children born. He then went into construction and followed jobs around the states for many years. In the later 1950's Louis went into construction business on his own. Many homes in and around Burlington were built by him and his crew. During these years he made many close friends. In 1977 Louis went to work at Wolf Creek Generating Station as a carpenter and eventually worked his way up to civil superintendent. Early in 1984, he was forced to retire due to ill health. Louis was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Burlington, and a past Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus Council No. 6055. His death came on Thursday, October 18, 1984, at Humana Hospital in Overland Park. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Anna, and a grandson, Lance E. Birk. He leaves his wife, Thelma; his son, Jim, Burlington; his five daughters Lois Jackson, Marcia Birk, and Linda Raymer, Burlington, Cathy Wille, Bedford, Tx., and Patty Leffler, Americus; and sixteen grandchildren. He also leaves two brothers, John and Justin Decker, Burlington; three sisters, Margaret Peters, Santa Maria, Ca., Marie Salsbury, Topeka, and Clara Bruha, Salina and many other relatives and cherished friends.
