This time an old landmark. On the night of the 19th, after a short illness, Mrs. Louisa A Potts died. She was 71 years old. Hers was a long and honored life. She belonged to the old school and by association with her one could tell she possessed many of those qualities of refinement of mind and feeling that were characteristic of the past. She was a good neighbor and while never having connected with the church she liberally carried out the Bible injunction "Love your neighbor as yourself" and it was said of her that she never was known to speak evil of her neighbors. She was highly esteemed by all who were intimate with her and was veritably a woman of fine character. Above the average in intellect, she took no part in neighborhood bickerings. She was a keeper at home and looked well to the ways of her household. She was the mother of 11 children, 3 of who died in childhood, and one a married daughter, Mrs. Harris, an estimable woman, died a few years ago. She has seven surviving children, three daughters, Mrs. O P Heath, Mrs. James Harris and Mrs. Frank Harris, and four sons Messrs D O Potts, O M Potts, James Potts and Dr Robert Potts. All her daughters are respected women and her sons men of influence. Her husband, Robert C Potts, died 27 years ago and left her with all these children except one or two of the oldest to train and their standing shows her care. We extend to them our heartfelt sympathy, for though she was old their grief showed their love and esteem and they all felt that they owed whatever success they have had to their mother. The community has lost a good member, and we all feel sad to know that Mrs. Potts is no more. The funeral exercises were conducted by Rev R A Younge of the Methodist church, and the large concourse of people at the funeral showed with what respect she was regarded by the people. L.S. Pleasant Valley, June 22, '99. ------------------------------------ Married April 29, 1846 in Union County, NC. ------------------------------------ Three of her daughters married three Harris brothers. ------------------------------------ There is a one year old male child in the household on the 1850 census (W.L. Potts). Child does not appear on 1860 census. ------------------------------------
