Mills, after an illness of twelve days, died on March 7th with pneumonia. Louisa Copsey was born in Primrose, Dane County, Wisconsin on October 21, 1850 and was married to F.D. Mills at Seneca, Wisconsin, March 31, 1869. To this union were born seventeen children; ten boys and seven girls; one boy and one girl died in Wisconsin and two boys died here. The remaining thirteen children were at their mother's bedside when she passed away. Two of the married girls live in the west; Mrs. Robbins at Rushville, Nebraska and Mrs. Leman at Douglas, Wyoming; two of the boys live at Huxley in the eastern part of the county; three girls and one boy are married and live in this neighborhood; five are still at home, four boys and one girl, the youngest boy being twelve years old. Those who have left the paternal home are prospering and are highly respected. In the year 1878, Mr. Mills moved from Wisconsin to Custer County, where he homesteaded his present fine farm on the banks of Clear Creek, one mile from Westerville. In 1886, under Rev. C.S. Cooper's preaching, Mr. and Mrs. Mills were converted and united with the M.E. Church, of which they and several of their children are faithful members. The death of Mrs. Mills has cast a gloom over the entire neighborhood. She was beloved not only by her own family, but by all who knew her. She was an active worker in the church and also a member of the Rebecca Lodge, where she filled prominent places. She was conscious up to her last moments and talked freely of being ready to go. She selected the first two verses of the 121st Psalm, from which Rev. Custer preached what some called the best funeral sermon that has been preached here in many years. One of her last requests was that her sons be the ones to lay her in her grave, which they did. It was a pathetic scene and only once before, when one of her boys was accidentally drowned in Clear Creek, was such a large attendance at a funeral in Westerville as that of Mrs. Mills on March 9, 1912. She was laid to rest in a beautiful casket which was completely covered with beautiful flowers, the gifts of loving friends. Among the offerings was a beautiful assortment, the gift of Byron's classmates at Broken Bow where he is attending high school. Not in Westerville's history has such an offering been made. Mrs. Mills will be greatly missed in this community where she has lived for over thirty-three years. Mr. Mills and family have the sympathy of this entire community in their sad bereavement."
