Read More	Published in the Western News, Libby, MT – EARLY PIONEER LAID TO REST MONDAY – Libby and Lincoln County lost another of the community's oldest and highly respected pioneers Thursday of last week when the death of Mrs. Fred Carter occurred. Mrs. Carter had lived in Libby ever since the family moved here in 1911. A faithful member of the Methodist group in Libby, Mrs. Carter was well known for her friendliness and good works always being ready to reach the helping hand where there was sickness or sorrow. Living in this section since its earlier days it was natural that she should love the outdoors and it was always her great pleasure to accompany Mr. Carter on his fishing trips into the wilderness sections of the county. Maybe one of her greatest pleasures was in being a homemaker. A skilled cook, it was always her desire to serve outstanding meals to her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by a large circle of friends and relatives who knew and loved her. The passing of this kindly pioneer has left a double vacancy in the community, for in addition to her loss; the condition of her husband's health makes it advisable for him to make his home in Ft. Benton, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Frank Doll, his address being Box 333, Ft. Benton. Louisa Otellia Carter was born in Saxeville, Wis., April 4, 1878. She moved to Libby in 1911, which has been her home ever since. She was united in marriage with Fred Carter, January 14, 1941 in Wheeling, W. Va. Mr. and Mrs. Carter spent their honeymoon at Niagara Falls, Buffalo and Akron, Ohio, returning to Libby to make their home. Mrs. Carter is survived by her husband, one son, Archie Thompson of Troy, two daughters, Mrs. Mary Powell, Seattle, Wash., and Mrs. Tillie Hamann of Libby; one brother, Gust Bartsch of Wild Rose, Wis., and two sisters, Mrs. Anna Bateman, Libby and Mrs. Edith Cotey, Merrill, Wis. Also two step-daughters, Mrs. Nancy Doll and Mrs. Mira Vinion, both of Ft. Benton. There are six grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Funeral Services were held Monday afternoon from the Gompf-Cutler Funeral Home in Libby with her pastor, the Rev. John Pugh of the Methodist church officiating. Mrs. Grace Brown and Mrs. Clayton A. Youngs, with Mrs. Clive Roark, at the organ sang, "Abide With Me" and "Beyond the Sunset." Pallbearers were Robert Mortison, Elmore Richey, George Heath, Clayton Youngs, Clifford Hayden and Austin Fraser. Internment was made in the Libby Cemetery. Postscript - Louisa was married first to William Andrew Thompson in Merrill, WI on 10/27/1897. He died 5/8/1914. She subsequently married Charles Rowe in Libby, MT on 6/11/1917. Charles Rowe died on 12/15/1939. She married Fred Carter in 1941. Her three children - Mary Henrietta Thompson Powell, Tillie L Thompson Hamann and Archie Thomas Thompson were the children of William Andrew Thompson.
