Description	:	Louisa is the daughter of William Arm Roe (a local minister), and his wife Mary "Polly" Martindale. (Louisa's parents had lived in German township, near South Bend, in St. Joseph County Indiana). --- In 1837, Joseph and Louisa settled in Section 5, in the northern part of Buchanan township, about 6 miles North of Buchanan, Michigan. Joseph purchased land from the U. S. Government. in 1839, and again in 1848. He later owned 600 acres in Sections 5, 6, 7, and 8. There was a lake on his property in Section 8, named Coveney Lake. School District No. 4, was known as the "Coveney School District". (Joseph would let the school teacher board at his home for free). This school district was organized on March 1, 1845, to comprise sections 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9. ------------------------------- Joseph and Louisa had 13 children: --- Note: All information should be verified. --- 1. Jane (Mellissa Jane) Coveney. b. Aug. 27, 1838 m. William James Tennant (1839-1916), on Sept. 12, 1858, in Berrien Co. MI. d. Oct. 30, 1903. Buried: Eldridge Township Cemetery, Hart, Oceana Co, MI. --- 2. Catherine "Kate" Coveney. b. Feb. 5, 1840. m. Charles Newton McCracken, on Sept. 20, 1865, in Berrien Co. MI. d. Oct. 24, 1882, in Buchanan, Berrien Co, MI, age 43 years, 9 months, and 21 days (married). Buried: Oak Ridge Cemetery (Section 20, Lot 53, near her parents). --- 3. John Clinton Coveney. b. Oct. 20, 1842, in Buchanan township. John served in the Civil War, in the 1st Michigan, Light Artillery. m. Phoebe G. Wells, on Dec. 23, 1878, in Berrien Co, MI. They had a daughter, Mary C. Mitchell. John graduated from the University of Michigan Law school in 1887, and practiced law at Benton Harbor, Michigan. An article was published on him for his 94th birthday, in "The News Palladium" newspaper, in Benton Harbor, MI, on Tues. Oct. 20, 1936, page 12. d. 1937. Buried: Oak Ridge Cemetery (Section A, Lot 269). --- 4. William Roe Coveney. b. May 12, 1845. m. Sarah Francis Hunter, on Feb. 13, 1873, in Berrien Co. MI, the daughter of Thomas Jefferson Hunter and his second wife Elizabeth Glover. Children: Peasley, Pearl (son), Paul, Caroline, Daisey, Clay, and Rubie/Rubbie Coveney. 1880 census: Buchanan, Michigan. 1900 census: Snohomish Washington. 1920 census: Nye, Nevada (with son Clay). d. April 15, 1925. --- 5. Mary Ann Coveney. b. Feb. 6, 1846. d. July 30, 1850. Buried: Oak Ridge Cemetery (Section 20, Lot 53). --- 6. Martha ("Mattie") E. Coveney. b. Jan. 21, 1848. m. # 1. William Kent. m. # 2. George W. Reese (1846-1888), on May 5, 1870, in Berrien Co, MI, the son of Martin Reese and Hannah Rulifson. They then lived in Kansas (1870), and then in Buchanan, MI (in 1880), and in Portland, Multnomah Co, OR, where George died in 1888. Martha is then listed as Martha "White", and is living with her son Thomas Dale Reese, in Portland, OR in 1910, and in Oakland, Alameda Co, CA in 1920. Children: Clyde Melville, and Thomas Dale. d. Sept. 8, 1928. --- 7. Joseph E. Coveney Jr. b. Jan. 18, 1851. m. # 1. Florence Nelson (1857-1906), in 1879, the daughter of Myers Nelson and Laura Ann Church. m. # 2. Charlotte Helen Garrett, on Nov. 24, 1906, in St. Joseph, Berrien Co, MI, the daughter of Thomas Garrett and Mary Ann Gamble. Charlotte was born Jan. 21, 1872 and she died Feb. 18, 1910, in Chicago, Cook Co, IL, at the age of 38 years, and 28 days. d. Joseph Jr. died Dec. 7, 1926, in Chicago, Cook Co, IL. --- 8. Robert Henry Coveney. b. Nov. 12, 1852. m. Alma L. Beech (1859-1902), on Nov. 12, 1877, in Berrien Co. MI. d. March, 1901. Buried: Oak Ridge Cemetery (Section 20, Lot 53). --- 9. Lelia Alma Coveney. b. June 25, 1855. m. Charles B. Diltz. Lived in Los Angeles, CA in 1936. d. 1944. --- 10. Augusta "Austa" R. Coveney. b. Nov. 15, 1857. m. Emanuel Frazier Weaver, on May 1, 1878, in Buchanan, Berrien Co, MI. He is the son of Jacob Weaver Sr. and his second wife Orpha Krum. d. Dec. 21, 1878, in Buchanan, MI, age 21. (Emanuel was remarried in 1881). (Emanuel died on April 6, 1940, in Ludington, Mason Co, MI, age 85, and widowed). --- 11. Helen C. Coveney. b. Nov. 13, 1859 (1860 per cemetery records). d. Charles Crumpacker, Dec. 27, 1887 in Jasper Co, IN (later divorced between 1920 and 1925.). m. # 2. William E. Noon (about 1925). Lived in Clearmont, FL in 1936. d. March 23, 1949, in Lake Co, FL. Bertha was educated at the Northern IN Normal School, at Valparaiso, IN. m. Prof. Homer Francis Pinnell, on July 29, 1891, in San Bernardino Co, CA. He was the son of Dr. Elijah A. Pinnell, and Elizabeth Britts. Homer and Bertha had three children: Vivian (born about 1893), Roy Marion (born July 6, 1895, in Redlands, San Bernardino Co. CA), and Muriel (born about 1901-1902). (Possibly also a Hellen Pinnell, born June 22, 1897, in Redlands, CA). Homer was the Supervising Principal of the San Pedro, California schools and principal of the high school. Homer and Bertha were both members of the Methodist Episcopal Church. See: "A History of California, and an extended history of its Southern...", Vol. 2, by J. M. Guinn, pages 1623 and 1624. d. June 24, 1907. (After Bertha died, Homer was remarried on July 19, 1909, in Los Angeles, CA to Etta Alzina Coverley).
