The Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton, SD was in charge of arrangements. Louise Lesiak was born on July 2, 1931 in Watertown, SD to Frank and Victoria (Cebulski) Lesiak. She attended country school during grade school years and graduated from Watertown High School in 1949. Louise's first job, following her education, was with Davey's Furniture in Watertown where she was trained in bookkeeping. She then moved to Minneapolis, MN and worked for a mutual funds broker as a bookkeeper. Louise moved back to Watertown in 1958 and worked as a secretary for the First Citizens National Bank. In 1965 she started working for Child Welfare in Codington County. In 1968 she was asked to help set up a child welfare program in Sisseton, SD where she worked until her retirement on December 31, 1991. Louise met the love of her life, Max Fischer, and their first date was on March 8, 1975; we know this because Louise kept immaculate records. Max and Louise were married on October 29, 1993 in Sisseton, SD. With her marriage to Max she also acquired nine children who have loved her as if she were their own mother. Louise enjoyed writing short stories and poems and also enjoyed painting and drawing along with many other hobbies. Louise was one of the original Red-hatters in Sisseton and was also a very active member of the St. Peter's Catholic Church. She enjoyed family gatherings and always made enough food to feed an army. Louise loved to travel; she made a number of trips abroad. There are not enough adjectives in the human vocabulary to describe Louise. She was caring, giving, loving, kind, humble, and thoughtful and the list could go on forever. She was our confidant, our advisor, our friend, she gave us encouragement when encouragement was needed, she gave us sympathy when sympathy was needed, and she loved us unconditionally. She was in a word our mother. Louise passed away at home on August 12, 2007; she will be missed very much. Louise is survived by her nine children; Pamela (Rick) Tockert of LaPorte, IN; Sandra Fischer of Rapid City, SD; Debra (David) Valnes of Eden, SD; Craig (Patricia) Fischer of Sturgis, SD; Bonnie (Tom) Peterson of Grand Forks, ND; Terry (Karen) Fischer of Grand Forks, ND; Don (Beth) Fischer of Sisseton, SD; Ron Fischer of Sisseton, SD; Mark (Suzanne) Fischer of Sisseton, SD; twenty-three grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, one nephew and three nieces. Louise was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Victoria Lesiak; her brothers, Frankie, Ray, and Edward; her stepfather, John, and her loving husband, Max Fischer.
