December 5, 1942 - Carroll Times - Mrs. William Joebgen, member of a pioneer family, succumbed to a heart ailment at 2:10 this morning at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. William Bowler, 203 North Maple Street. Mrs. Joebgen had been in declining health for about three years and bedfast for the last month. She was 72 years old. Mrs. Joebgen had been in declining health for about three years and bedfast for the last month. She was 72 years old. Arrangements for the funeral services have not been completed, pending word from Mrs. Joebgen's children at distant points. Mrs. Joebgen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Goecke, early settlers of this community, was born Louise Goecke Feb. 28, 1870, on a farm near Mt. Carmel. Her marriage to Mr. Joebgen, a native of Lyons, Iowa, took place Nov. 3, 1897, at Mt. Carmel. Mr. and Mrs. Joebgen spent their married life in or near Carroll. They moved into Carroll from their farm at the northwest edge of the city in 1926. Mr. Joebgen passed away June 11, 1941. Mrs. Joebgen was a member of SS. Peter and Paul's Church. She also belonged to the Christian Mothers Sodality and the Missionary Society of the parish. She was the mother of eight children, six of whom survive: Joseph W. Joebgen, Storm Lake; Mrs. William Bowler (Leone), Carroll; Private Gilbert F. Joebgen, Randolph Field, Tex.; Mrs. Lyle McPherson (Melvina), Glidden; Mrs. George A. Mintonye, Jr. (Marguerite), Cedar Rapids; and Mrs C.J. Hollinger (Kathryn), Casper, Wyo. Two sons, Casper and Marcus, died in infancy. Mrs. Joebgen leaves seven grandchildren. She is also survived by four brothers and one sister: Frank Goecke, Carroll; Will Goecke, Spencer; Henry Goecke, Estherville; Joe Goecke, Carroll; and Mrs. Henry Otto, Carroll. She was preceded in death by one sister, Mrs. John Walz, and one brother, John Goecke.
