He was born May 6, 1921, to John and Minnie Maude (Phillippi) Sperline in East Wenatchee. Sperline, 73, a lifelong resident of East Wenatchee and longtime attorney, died Saturday morning, March 11, 1995, in his home. He was born May 6, 1921, to John and Minnie Maude (Phillippi) Sperline in East Wenatchee. He graduated from Wenatchee High School in 1938 and from LaVerne College in LaVerne, Calif., with a bachelor's degree in sociology. He married Lois V. Fike on Sept. 12, 1942, in Bakersfield, Calif. He entered theU.S. Army Air Corps and after his discharge in 1944, he and his wife moved to Pomona, Calif., where he worked for the Orange County Sheriff's Department as a juvenile corrections officer. His wife completed her master's degree at the University of Southern California. They moved to Seattle in 1948, where he graduated from the University of Washington Law School in 1951. He was called back to duty in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict and served as an attorney at Hamilton Air Force Base in Marin County, Calif. He was honorably discharged as a first lieutenant in 1954 and moved his family to the Sperline family homestead in East Wenatchee. He practiced law on Main Street for 37 years until his retirement in 1991. He also planted an orchard, which he operated until his death. Mr. Sperline was a longtime member of the Wenatchee Brethren Baptist Church United; East Wenatchee Kiwanis Club; American Bar Association; Washington State Bar Association; National Rifle Association; and American Legion. He was past president of the Eastmont School Board and past president of the Washington State School Directors Association. He bowled for the Eastmont Body Shop Team in East Wenatchee and was recently named "Bowler of the Week" at Eastmont Lanes. Survivors include his daughters, Cheryl Woolett, Kalaheo, Kauai, Hawaii, and Christine Mathews, Brier; his brothers, Vergil of Huntington Park, Calif., George of East Wenatchee, Donald of Des Moines, and Eldon and Calvin, both of Federal Way; his sisters, Viola Caldwell, Wenatchee, and Okel Baaken, Federal Way; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife on Sept. 29, 1991, three brothers and two sisters. Arrangements are by Telford's Chapel of the Valley, East Wenatchee.
