Lowell Levene Pedersen was born August 13, 1934, at Ware, Iowa. He was the son of Clarence and Edna (Levene) Pedersen. Lowell attended Ware schools and graduated from Havelock High School in 1952. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 – 1959 during the Vietnam War. He was stationed in Germany where he worked as a G2 Intelligence Analyst. Following his discharge Lowell returned to Pocahontas. On May 29, 1964, Lowell married Maureen “Sam” Huston in Pocahontas. The couple settled in Pocahontas where Lowell was owner/operator of Rite Way Cleaners. Lowell operated his dry cleaner store until retiring in 1999. Sam passed away in 2008 and Lowell continued to live in Pocahontas. Lowell was a member of the Pocahontas Chamber of Commerce and Pocahontas Golf Club. He served on the Pocahontas City Council and as Mayor of Pocahontas for many years. He served as EMS Director for several years. He enjoyed music, golfing, following the Iowa Hawkeyes and was an avid Green Bay Packer fan. Lowell also enjoyed Sunday Morning Breakfast Club, happy hour in the back of his shop and carousing with friends and family. Survivors include his daughters, Lori (Doug Johnson) Pedersen of Denver and Jean (Brent) Rankin of Clive; two grandchildren Sam and Casey Rankin and a sister, Virginia Pedersen of Cherokee. Lowell was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Sam.
