Read More	HEATH, LOWELL RICHARD—Lowell Richard Heath was born to Charles Harold Heath and Nora M. Miller Heath on March 1, 1931, at Fairmont, and passed away on October 10, 2003, at the Grand Island Veterans Home, at the age of 72 years, seven months and 9 days. He was the older of two children in the family. Lowell attended Geneva Public Schools and graduated with the class of 1949. He enjoyed football during his high school years and was recognized as an All-State Player. He was the first inductee into the Geneva High School Sports Hall of Fame. Lowell attended the University of Nebraska for one year. He was inducted into the United States Army on May 15, 1952, and served in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on April 13, 1954. Lowell returned to the family farm and worked with his father and brought irrigation to the business. He was one of the first to try pivot irrigation. As a youngster, his curiosity about how things work led him to a life-long career. Mechanics training in the military furthered his knowledge and he became known as the person who could fix anything. He had a great desire to create ways to make work easier. He designed and built his cattle-feeding system as well as several buildings on the farm. A desire to keep clean and warm during harvest prompted him to build a cab for his combine, long before cabs became standard equipment. Lowell enjoyed his work, farming, feeding cattle and working in his shop. He employed young men during the summer months and enjoyed teaching them his methods of work. He was explicit in directions always keeping in mind their safety. On Oct. 25, 1956, Lowell and Jo Ann Fussell were united in marriage and to them two children were born. In 1961, the family moved to the family farm west of Geneva where they resided in the home Lowell built. A favorite high school coach encouraged his players to participate in the school dances. This prompting led Lowell and Jo Ann to many years of dancing at the Flying V Ballroom. Late summer vacations were spent attending the plays at the Brownville Village Theatre. Lowell was confirmed in the United Methodist Church and was a member for 60 years. He was proud to serve in the military and was a member of the American legion Post 68 and the VFW Post 7102. Lowell had no plans to retire, but Parkinson’s disease forced him to do so and greatly altered his life. He valiantly fought the disease while continuing to be his quiet, caring humorous self. Lowell was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Nora Heath. He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann; son Steve; daughter, Cindy and husband, Greg Schwaninger; grandsons, Adam and Brett Schwaninger and Ben Heath; sister, Marjorie Dowdy and husband, Max and their family. Also surviving are parents-in-law, Ben and Alyce Fussell; brother-in-law Glen Fussell; brother-in-law Del and Lynne Fussell, and their family; and special friends, Amy and Maggie Maffin. Funeral services were conducted from the Geneva United Methodist church on Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, with Rev. Pat Kelley officiating. Sue Kleinschmidt accompanied Delwin Myers, who sang “This is My Father’s World” and “The Hymn of Promise.” Serving as pallbearers were Steve Evans, Douglas Bandemer, Kurt Koch, Larry Olena, Roddy Salmon and Tom Bumgarner.
