Read More	Lowell Amunson Jan. 17, 1911-Dec. 2, 2005 Lowell Vern Amunson, 94, formerly of Soldier, died Friday, December 2, 2005, at the Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton where he has resided for the past two years. Lowell was born on a farm east of Soldier on January 17, 1911, the son of Olaf and Hanora (Clemon) Amunson. He attended the "Meadows" Country School through the eighth grade and graduated from the Soldier High School in 1929. After graduating from high school, he helped his father with the farming and also worked for other farmers in the area. On May 16, 1940, he was married to Esther Cummins at the Lutheran Church in Soldier. They farmed in the Soldier area until they retired. Lowell started farming with horses and continued to have horses on his farm. He was a member of the Soldier Lutheran Church, Monona County Historical Society, Soil Conservation Board, Soldier School Board, served as Township Trustee, and on the Lutheran Church Board. Lowell is survived by his wife, Esther of Mapleton; three daughters, Mary and husband, Richard Bland of Sioux City, Julie and husband William Britton of Slater, Iowa, Doris and husband Jim McBurney of Manson, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Karen Amunson of Rochester, Minnesota; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Leonard, granddaughter, Kelly; five brothers, Merrill, Kermit, Clifford, Leo and Milton Amunson; four sisters, Verona Hanson, Evelyn Flynn, Blaine Amunson and Lorene York. Lowell loved his life's work as a farmer, liked working with wood, and enjoyed the horses that he worked with all of his farming career. Funeral services were 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 7, 205 at Soldier Lutheran Church, Soldier, Iowa, with Pastor Meggan Manlove officiating. The organist was Lynette Thies and the congregational hymns were "On Eagles Wings" and "His Eye Is On The Sparrow". Honorary Bearers were Kenneth Lee, Gordon Foss, Ray Severson, Jim Severson, Clayton Swenson, Ardell Savery and Stanley Holt. Casket Bearers were Eric Bland, Craig Bland, Jason Britton, Matthew McBurney, Michael McBurney, Ryan Maher, Andrew Amunson, Patrick Amunson, Scott Sobkowiak, and Jason Hollingsworth.
