He was born on July 29, 1929 in Pawnee City to Clyde William and Christine Rose (Barrett) Packett. Lowell attended school in Pawnee City and graduated in 1947. Read More	Lowell William Packett July 29, 1929 ~ December 15, 2013 Lowell William Packett, 84 of Pawnee City, Nebraska passed away on Sunday, December 15, 2013 in Beatrice at the Good Samaritan Society. He was born on July 29, 1929 in Pawnee City to Clyde William and Christine Rose (Barrett) Packett. Lowell attended school in Pawnee City and graduated in 1947. While attending school Lowell worked as a movie projectionist and as a service station attendant in Pawnee City and at Dempster Manufacturing in Beatrice. After graduation he worked as a wheat harvest hand in South Dakota, then services a special route for Sinton Dairy in Colorado Springs, Colorado. In 1953 he worked civil service at Hamilton AFB, California and as a laborer for Howell plumbing in Novato, California before becoming an apprentice plumber. About this time he met Peggy and decided it was time to settle down. Lowell married Peggy (Aswegan) Packett on December 17, 1955 in Reno, NV. To this union three children were born, Dianna, Larry and Joan. Lowell served in the US Air force for 10 years and the US Army for 13 years. While in the Military he completed an administrative course and NCO Academy at Offutt AFB, NE, US Military Intelligence School at Fort Holabird, MD; Nuclear Weapons Orientation Advanced Course at Sandia Base, NM, Emergency Medical Technician course at Fort Bliss, TX and Drug Investigation Course at Fort Gordon, GA. Lowell served tours of duty in Germany, Korea and Vietnam. Lowell was stationed at Lackland AFB, TX; Hamilton AFB,CA, Ent AFB, CO, Offutt AFB,NE; Fort Riley, KS; White Sands Missle Range, NM; Fort Bliss, TX; Hamilton AFB, CA, Stuttgardt, Germany; Kaiserslautern, Germany; Sandia Base, NM; and Fort Bragg, NC. He was First Sergeant/Operations Sergeant of Military Intelligence Company in Germany and at Sandia Base,NM. At Sandia Base he was appointed Chief Warrant Office (W2) with the title of Military Intelligence Technician. While stationed at Fort Bragg, NC, he conducted subversive type investigations throughout the state. He also maintained liaison with civilian law enforcement agencies to include FBI, CIA, National Guard and Reserve Units. After the repatriation of the Vietnam POW's he was sent to Fort Gordon, GA to assist in the debriefing of those POW's. After retirement in 1974 he and Peggy spent about 5 years renovating houses, then was employed as a US Postal Clerk in Pawnee City for 13 years, retiring in 1991. During his military career he received many awards and citations including the US Presidential Citation, Korean Presidentail Citation, Meritorious Service Medal w/Leaf, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal w/Oak Leaf, Air Force Commendation Medal w/Oak Leaf, Good Conduct Medal w/6 knots, National Defense Service Medal w/Oak Leaf, Air Force Expeditionary Medal, Korean Service Medal w/Device, RVN Gallantry Cross w/Palm, VN Service Medal. Lowell was a Life Member of VFW Post 5289 and served as Adjutant/Quartermaster for one year. He was also a Life Member of American Lodge Post 168 and DAV Post 63. He served as Secretary for the Robison Barracks Boy Scout Troop while stationed in Stuttgart Germany. He served as a lifelong member for the First Christian Church DOC in Pawnee City, serving as a Deacon and on various committees. He served on the Pawnee City Cemetery Board Association for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Christine and Clyde Packett, his son Clifford (from a previous marriage), sister Margaret, brothers, Byford, Robert and Richard. He is survived by his wife Peggy of Pawnee City, NE, son Larry Alan (Tabitha) Packett of Pawnee City, NE, daughters, Dianna (Ronald) Hoban of Lincoln, NE, Joan (Stan) Roby of Malaga, OH, grandchildren, Christopher (Rae Lynne) Bredemeier, their three Children, Caleb, Elijah and Ansley of Virginia, NE, David (Dezeree) Bredemeier their daughter Bree of Adams, NE, Jennifer Bredemeier of Steinauer, NE, Sarah (Jeff) Whitfield and son Alexander of Farmers Branch, TX, Tyler, Brandon, Timothy Packett of Pawnee City, NE, numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and many friends. Memorial services 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 11, 2014 at Presbyterian Church Pawnee City, Nebraska. Officiating Reverend Duane Westing. Visitation on Friday, January 10, 2014 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., with family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m. at Wherry Mortuary, Pawnee City, Nebraska. Inurnment at the Pawnee City Cemetery, Pawnee City, Nebraska. Memorials in lieu of flowers to Asera Care Hospice in Beatrice, Nebraska.
