Col. Earl Williams Holtzscheiter, 97, the husband of Mary Lois McKenzie Holtzscheiter, having fought the good fight for both God and man, he laid down this earthly armor to receive his Eternal reward on Monday, January 18, 2021, at Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital. Mr. Holtzscheiter was born a son of Charles Leonard Holtzscheiter and Jessie Bernice Williams Holtzscheiter on December 13, 1923, in Andrews, SC. Lt. Col. Holtzscheiter was a United States Air Force Veteran and served in the Korean War. He started his military career in the ROTC program at Clemson University. After boot camp, he was assigned to the 19th Regiment of the Army Air Core and then transferred to the Air Force. After Flight School, he flew 20 flights on a B-24 plane, 180 flights in Gliders School. Even then God had his hand of protection upon the soldier for over 67% of his class was shot down over Germany. Early in his career, he served in the Pacific. He was trained and assigned as a Meteorologist and flew weather reconnaissance over Hawaii, Alaska, and the North Pole. He recalls on one trip home from the North Pole to California when he could brush ice off his uniform. He then served in North Africa as a meteorologist and often flew medical flights. He was the commander of the Andrews AFB weather station and forecasted for President John F. Kennedy's Air Force One flights. He was a decorated soldier with over a dozen awards including: the National Defense Service Medal with one Bronze Star, the World War II Victory Medal, and the Korean Service Medal. He completed extensive flight training with over 3000 hours in the C-47. Lt. Col. Holtzscheiter gave 26 ½ years of service to the United States and the United States Air Force. As a civilian, he taught in the local High School and farmed his land in the Carver’s Bay Community. As a committed Disciple of the Kingdom of God, he was a soldier who put on the whole armor of God fighting for many lost souls. He was a devoted Southern Baptist and fulfilling the call to go make disciples, he was instrumental in the establishment of 6 Baptist churches – 1 in New Jersey, 3 in Nebraska, 1 in Garden City, SC, and 1 in Maryland. He was a current member of the Rose Hill Baptist. He was a member of the Farm Bureau of SC and served on the Board of Directors for the Georgetown County Farm Bureau. He was a member of the American Legion. He leaves behind his wife, three children, Earl W. “Bill” Holtzscheiter (Deborah), Linda Ann Holtzscheiter, and Robin Celeste Turner (Robert); and three grandchildren, Garrett Michael Turner (Lauren), Rachel Jessica Adkisson (Quentin), and Joshua Brighton Holtzscheiter; one greatgrandson, Caleb Michael Turner. He was predeceased by: his parents; a brother, Charles Leonard; and a sister, Betty Dell Paschal. The Holtzscheiter family will hold a private Home Going Celebration with Military Honors due to Covid 19. Please continue to cover this family with your love and prayers.
