DANNY BIRD DIES IN ACTION LARNED - Mr. and Mrs. Henry D. Bird, who recently moved to Larned, have been advised of the death in a crash in line of duty of their son, Lt. Harold D. (Danny) Bird. Lt. Bird attended the Garfield public schools and was graduated from Emporia State Teachers college in 1940, where he was a varsity tennis star and all-around athlete. After his graduation he taught school for one year at Coolidge. He entered the navy air forces in October, 1941, and received his wings in August, 1942, at Pensacola, Fla. He had been on active duty during the past few months. He is survived by his parents, who recently moved to Larned; two brothers, Lt. Eldred H. Bird, stationed at Casper, Wyo. with the army air forces and Cecil Bird, Wichita; and two sisters, Mrs. George Simmons and Mrs. Vincent Simmons, Larned. No details concerning the manner in which Lt.
