Read More	Altoona Herald, Altoona, IA July 11, 1974 Obituary of Lucy Clark Lucy Lizetta Dunaway, daughter of John David Dunaway and Mary Sykes Whitted, was born on April 5, 1880 at Monroe, Iowa. Her early life was spent in the Monroe community, and it was in the rural schools of Monroe and Jasper County that she received her education. On May 20, 1903, she united in marriage to Noyes Joseph Clark of Colfax at Newton. Their married life was spent on the family farm midway between Altoona and Mitchellville. Five children were born to this marital union. They were: Enna Myrtle, Marjorie Lucy, Maurice Lyman, Ralph Kermit and Betty Jean. Lucy belonged to the Mitchellville Garden Club, the former Federated Wednesday Study Club, the Martha Circle of the Altoona United Methodist church, and was a long time member of the Altoona United Methodist church. She took a great deal of interest in many, many things. She had numerous collections of bells, rocks, shells and other novelty items. She liked to knit and crochet, and was always apt in keeping her hands busy with things. Life held for her great and varied interests. Even in later years she continued to have an alert mind and a buoyant spirit. She has traveled considerably, especially as one considers her age. Her travels have taken her across the nation and as far south as Mexico. She has enjoyed considerably good health and had never been hospitalized until her final illness. Her passing came on Saturday evening, July 6 at Des Moines general Hospital, where she had been these past few days. She had reached the age of 94 years, 3 months, 1 day. She was preceded in death by her parents; two children: Maurice Lyman at age 6 and Betty Jean at age 3 months; by four brothers. John, Willie, Jim and Arthur Dunaway; by four sisters: Lydia, Martha, Hattie and Etta, and her husband. She is survived by three children: Enna Taylor of Mitchellville, Marjorie Murrow of Bondurant and Ralph Clark of Altoona; two sisters: Myrtle (Mrs. Ben Nolin) of Coleville, Calif., and Ola Rexroat of Monee, Ill.; seven grandchildren and 13 great - grandchildren. For the pat 20 years she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Enna Taylor, near Mitchellville. All of her life has been spent in this particular area except for six years that she lived in Ames. Perhaps her life could be per-personified somewhat by the type of poems and clippings she had. among these were the following lines by Charles Wagner. "Try to be honest; pure, you will believe in honesty; pure, you will believe in purity; sincere and you will no longer doubt the sincerity of others; benevolent, and you will be amazed to discover how many amiable people there are." Life was rich and meaningful for Lucy Clark, but now she has earned her rest. May God grant her eternal peace and joy. Services were conducted at the Altoona United Methodist church on Tuesday, July 9, 1974, at 2 p.m. Interment was made in the Altoona Cemetery.
