The Chronicle - Thursday, February 29th, 1912 - Following an illness of three years duration Mrs. Lucy M. Buehler was claimed by the death messenger at the home in this city at a quarter to eight last Friday evening. She was a sufferer from what medical men term Hodgkin's disease, contributory to general tuberculosis, and the closing weeks of her life were particularly distressing. The disease made gradual inroads upon her strength and it was not until January that her condition became such as to cause the family unusual uneasiness. A trip to Colorado was then decided upon and undertaken, but it did not prove beneficial and she came home. Since that time she declined steadily and death came as stated to release her from her sufferings. Funeral services were held from the home at 2.30 Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. W.J. Todd of Ida Grove, and interment made in the local cemetery. Mrs. Lucy Mary Kramer was born in Dubuque county, this state, February 18, 1854, and was fifty-eight years and five days old at the time of her death. She grew to womanhood at the home of her birth and in September 1877, was married to Geo. J. Buehler of Cedar Lake, Indiana. They came to Odebolt within a few weeks, where Mr. Buehler engaged in the lumber business and which he continued up to the time of his death, June 26, 1886. Three children were born to them —Mrs. H B. Fox, John F. Buehler and Mrs. J E. Read, all of whom were at her bedside when death came. Following the death of her husband the mother was left to rear the family of small children. She devoted herself to her family and endeared herself to everyone because of her patience, fortitude and many other excellent qualities. She was beloved by her neighbors and esteemed by hosts of friends. Aside from the children she is survived by her mother, Mrs. Minnie Kramer, of Dubuque; four sisters: Miss Esther Kramer, also of Dubuque, Mrs. Frances Crook and Mrs. Clara Haug of Great Bend, Kansas, and Mrs. Mary Williams of Harrison, Montana. Also by three half-brothers and two half-sisters, as follows: Fred, August and Adolph Kramer, Mrs. Amelia Schmitt and Mrs. Emma Thompson, all of Dubuque, Mrs. Minnie Kramer, Mrs. Amelia Schmitt and J.E. Read were present at the funeral. Mrs. Frances Crook started from her home in Kansas to attend but missed her connections and did not arrive until Monday morning. She will remain for an indefinite time.
